Like many wonders in nature, the geographic source and varietal characteristics of the coffee plant are its foundations of flavour and quality. Much like wine, the microclimate in which the coffee is grown-soil, sun, shade and crop yield-matters most. Beyond microclimate and variety, processing methods add to the bean's quality journey. Processing methods such as Natural, Honeyed, or Washed contribute key attributes that will translate to the cup. Roasting brings all of this to perfection, yet over-roasting can mask the native qualities of the bean, leaving us with excessively smoky, caramel, or even burnt notes. Consumers often think of this as a "stronger" cup but it's actually a lesser cup. At Barnie's CoffeeKitchen, I seek coffees from the most interesting terroir, select the best varietals and processing methods and roast to bring balance and complexity to every cup. THE COFFEE BEAN & TEA LEAF®
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® was born during a trip our founders Herb and Mona Hyman took to Europe. After enjoying outstanding coffee throughout Europe, the couple decided to bring the specialty coffeehouse concept to America. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf brand was established in 1963, opening the first store in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California which continues to operate to this day. We believe that buying from the best estates and small farms leads to the very best coffee. In our search for the finest coffees in the world, we use only the top 1% of the Arabica Beans found at altitudes up to 6,000 feet, which results in a more concentrated flavor. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® has since grown to over 1,000 stores worldwide.
